Say "send text" to submit

Turn on the send text command to send a message by voice in chat apps, terminals, and search bars, and choose which apps it works in.

Ending a dictation with the words "send text" sends your message for you. Epilude inserts the rest of what you said, then presses Return, so you can finish a Slack message or run a terminal command without touching the keyboard.

It stays off until you turn it on, and it only sends in places where Return submits. Everywhere else, "send text" is typed as ordinary words.

Turn on "send text"

Open Settings → Dictation and, under Dictation behavior, turn on Say "send text" to submit. The change takes effect on your next dictation.

The command uses the same Accessibility permission Epilude already uses to type your text, so there is nothing new to grant.

Where it sends, and where it won't

Epilude sends only in apps and fields where Return submits, and types the words everywhere else. You don't choose the app each time; Epilude decides from what is in front of you.

Sends your messageTypes "send text" instead
Chat apps: Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Messages, WhatsApp, Telegram, SignalEditors and notes: Word, Pages, Google Docs, Notion, Apple Notes
Terminals: Terminal, iTerm2, Warp, Ghostty, and othersCode editors
Web chats: ChatGPT, Claude, GeminiAny app Epilude does not recognize as a send context
Single-line fields like a browser address bar or a search box

In an editor, Return starts a new line rather than sending, so Epilude leaves "send text" as text. This keeps the command from firing where you did not mean it.

Send what you typed

If you have already typed something by hand, say "send text" on its own and Epilude sends what is in the field.

Override a specific app

Force the command on or off for any app to overrule Epilude's automatic choice. Use this when an app you rely on is not recognized, or when you never want to send in a particular app.

Open the overrides

In Settings → Dictation → Dictation behavior, find App overrides below the toggle.

Add an app

Click Add app..., then pick the app from your Applications folder.

Choose Always or Never

Set the app to Always to send there every time, or Never to keep "send text" as text. Remove an override with the minus button.

Troubleshooting

  • "send text" was typed instead of sending. The app is not recognized as a send context. Add it under App overrides and set it to Always.
  • It sent in the wrong app. Epilude presses Return only if the same app is still focused when your dictation finishes. If you switched apps mid-dictation, nothing is sent.
  • Nothing sent in a chat app. Some apps can be set so Return adds a new line instead of sending (for example Slack set to "Cmd+Enter to send"). Switch the app back to Return-to-send, or set it to Never and send by hand.
  • A sentence that ended in "send text" got sent. Those final words are read as the command. If you often end sentences that way in one app, set that app to Never.
