Languages
Epilude supports dictation in multiple languages. Learn how to configure your preferred language.
Supported languages
Epilude supports dictation in any language supported by your configured transcription provider. The most common languages include:
- English (US, UK, Australian)
- Spanish
- French
- German
- Portuguese
- Italian
- Japanese
- Chinese (Mandarin)
- Korean
Provider-dependent
The exact list of supported languages depends on your transcription provider (Deepgram or OpenAI Whisper). Check your provider's documentation for the full list.
Changing your language
- Open Epilude → Settings → Dictation
- Select your preferred language from the Language dropdown
- Changes apply immediately
How language detection works
Epilude processes one language at a time based on the language you've selected in Settings. It does not auto-detect which language you're speaking — you choose the language before dictating, and the transcription provider optimizes for that language.
To switch languages, change the setting before your next dictation.
Multi-language usage
If you speak multiple languages, keep these tips in mind:
- Epilude works best with one primary language per dictation. Occasional borrowed words (e.g., a French phrase in English) usually transcribe fine, but alternating languages sentence by sentence reduces accuracy.
- Select only the languages you actually use. Fewer configured languages means better accuracy for each one.
English-only features
Smart Formatting voice cues — like "comma", "new line", and "list" — currently work in English only. For other languages, punctuation is handled by your transcription provider's built-in model.
Tips
- Choose the specific regional variant for best accuracy (e.g., "English (US)" vs. "English (UK)")
- If transcription accuracy drops, verify the correct language is selected in Settings → Dictation → Language
