Troubleshooting Meeting Notes

Fix meetings where the other side is missing from the transcript, notes that never appear, and recordings that stop on their own.

In closed beta

Meeting Notes is in closed beta and not yet available to everyone. This article describes how it works.

Most meeting problems trace back to a missing permission, a setting, or a summary that was never generated. Start with the symptom that matches yours.

The other side of the call is missing

If the transcript shows only [Me] lines, Epilude is not receiving the meeting audio your Mac plays. That capture needs the Screen Recording permission, listed in System Settings → Privacy & Security under Screen & System Audio Recording. While it is missing, the floating recording control shows a Mic only marker.

Grant the permission, then stop and start the recording. If you clicked Record my side only when the recording began, that choice also limits the meeting to your microphone.

No summary appeared

Stopping a recording finishes the transcript, not the notes. Press Generate notes on the meeting to write the summary and action items. If nothing happens after that:

  • In Local Mode? The meeting bar reads "Summaries aren't available in Local Mode yet." The transcript is saved; switch to Cloud mode in Settings → General and Generate notes becomes available.
  • On the Pay Once plan? Summaries are part of an Epilude subscription. The transcript is saved and stays yours.
  • Summarization set to None? Check Settings → Meeting Notes → Summarization.
  • Offline or signed out? Summaries are generated in Epilude's cloud, so you need a connection and a signed-in account.

The recording stopped on its own

It reached the automatic stop cap, 4 hours by default. Epilude warns you ten minutes beforehand with a Continue option. Raise or turn off the cap in Settings → Meeting Notes → Stop recording automatically.

If Epilude quit or your Mac restarted instead, the meeting is recovered on the next launch with "(Recovered)" in its title. See Record a meeting.

Epilude never offered to record

The Meeting detected card needs three things: the Accessibility permission, the Auto-detect meetings toggle in Settings → Meeting Notes, and a meeting app on the monitored list. Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Slack, Webex, FaceTime, Discord, Skype, and WhatsApp are covered; for anything else, start the recording yourself with ⌘⇧M.

Copy transcript came up short mid-meeting

During a live recording, Copy transcript copies only what has already been finalized, not the lines still arriving. Select the text on screen to copy the newest lines, or wait until you stop the recording.

The transcript is running behind

A "Transcribing…" line under the live transcript shows how far behind it is. It catches up on its own, and the recording itself is not affected. Keep Epilude open after stopping until the remaining transcription finishes.

The Markdown file is missing from its folder

The export folder may be unreachable, for example on a disconnected drive. Epilude shows the failure in Settings → Meeting Notes and offers Retry. Details in Export and auto-save.
