Start with almost anything
Select text in any Mac app, or bring Narrator a document, public web page, image, screen capture, or copied text.
Read along or look away
Follow the highlighted sentence and words, jump to another spot, or leave the reader behind and use the floating player.
Choose where it runs
EP-1's voice reads on your Mac. Choose a cloud voice when you want the online voice library.
Select it. Press one hotkey. Keep going.
Highlight text in any Mac app and press ⌥⌘N. Narrator starts reading without making you move the text into another app. The same command pauses and resumes, and “Narrate with Epilude” is available from the macOS Services menu.
The first prototype answered the easy questions.

Bring the things still sitting in your reading list
Open Narrator to paste a web link or copied text, type something new, or import a PDF, DOCX, TXT, Markdown, HTML, or RTF file. It can also pull the words from an image or a section of your screen. Each import goes into your narration library so you can return to it later.

Follow every word, or put the screen away
The floating player shows the text as Narrator reads it and highlights the current sentence and word, or shows one word at a time in RSVP mode. Click a word to continue from there, or put the screen away and listen. Speed runs from 0.5× to 3×, and the player moves back or forward a sentence at a time.

Choose what leaves your Mac
EP-1 reads on your Mac. Its text and audio stay there unless you choose to put a narration on the web. Cloud voices send the text to Epilude to make the audio and give you the broadest voice library. The voice picker says where each option runs before you press play.
Pick up on your phone, or send the link
Put a narration on the web as “Only me” to finish it on another device, or make a link anyone can open. Epilude tells you exactly what will be uploaded before the first share. Reset the link or stop sharing at any time; the copy in your Mac library stays put.
