Today we are introducing EP-1, our first on-device model to support dictation, formatting text and transcribing and summarising meeting notes with Notetaker.
For the first time, an Epilude meeting can go from recording to transcript to finished notes without leaving your Mac. Model 4.1 made private local dictation practical. EP-1 takes that work into the full meeting workflow.
Cloud mode remains the faster and most capable model option for dictation and meeting summaries, but we're excited to release EP-1 as an on-device option for those who (like us) care about processing your dictations and meeting notes and summaries locally on your Mac without any data leaving your computer.
One model for dictation and meetings
EP-1 broadens what Local Mode can finish on your Mac. Speak into any text field and it turns your voice into clean writing. Record a meeting and it can turn the conversation into a transcript, summary, decisions, and action items.
The transcription and Cleanup experience carries forward from Model 4.1. On-device meeting summaries are the major addition in EP-1.

Meeting notes that stay on your Mac
Before EP-1, Local Mode could transcribe a meeting on your Mac, but producing the summary still required sending the finished transcript to the cloud. EP-1 closes that final hop.
With local transcription and local summaries selected, the meeting audio, transcript, and finished notes stay on your Mac. EP-1 works without an internet connection once it is downloaded. The same privacy boundary now covers both sides of Epilude: the words you dictate and the meetings you record.
The output is the same kind of working note Epilude already produces: a summary, decisions, open questions, and action items you can check against the transcript. The difference is where that work happens.
Evaluating meeting-note quality
Meeting notes are most useful when they preserve the difference between a suggestion and a decision, keep tentative answers tentative, and connect each action item to the right person. Our evaluation gives those details more weight than polished phrasing.
We evaluate EP-1 on 60 held-out meeting-note scenarios covering decisions, action items, tentative language, conflicting proposals, handoffs, and meetings with several people. We run deterministic checks first, then judge whether the notes are faithful to the transcript and could be used without substantial editing.
In our internal benchmark, 62% of EP-1 notes passed, compared with about 92% for Cloud mode. EP-1 is our leading local model for meeting notes, but it remains behind the more capable models available through Cloud mode. Separately, 68% of EP-1 notes were judged faithful to the transcript. We've already begun training our next generation model to further close the gap in capabilities between our local models and the SOTA models used in Cloud mode.
Limitations
EP-1 is a meaningful step forward for local meeting notes. Our cloud models still produce more consistently complete notes and return them sooner.
A 45 to 60 minute meeting takes about 20 minutes to summarise with EP-1. On the same internal benchmark, 62% of its notes passed, compared with about 92% for Cloud mode.
Long and crowded meetings remain the hardest case. EP-1 is less consistent at following ownership when several people discuss, revise, or hand off the same piece of work. The transcript remains available alongside the notes for reference.
Choose EP-1 when keeping the meeting on your Mac matters more than speed of summarisation.
EP-1 is included with Local Mode on supported Macs. Open Settings → Models → Notetaker → Meeting summary model, choose Local model, and download EP-1.
